MADNESS!?!

So tonight I commented on something, and my wife just had to get a picture:

Since June of 2005, I've lost about 22 Nicholas Ivan's (my son, now 1 month and some odd days old).  That's.. 227 pounds.

Today I told myself I was doing the Dirty Kanza 200 next year, which is 200 miles on gravel, in one day, in June.. in Kansas.  I also told myself that before said race, I need to dedicate 6 months of gravel training (at least) to properly prep for it.  AND THEN I told myself that before I put my tires on gravel roads, I need to be 299lbs before December 1st.  Seeing that I started in March at 377, and am now at 340 (I completely bypassed the 340's, suckahs!) I don't think that'll be a problem.  In fact, if I were to predict, I'd predict that I'll get 10-11 months of gravel training in.

I don't want to finish in the top tell.  Hell, I'll just go for the bottom 10.  Truth be told, though, I just want to finish.  I figure that'll be oddly appropriate, four years after I was 567 pounds, and barely able to make it up three flights of stairs I'll finish a 200 mile ride on gravel.

Hell yes.

You look absolutely fantastic, Ben. I'm so thrilled to read how well you are.

Quick question for you about bikes. I've noticed that when I'm riding my bike, my tires seem awfully flat. Yet when I get off the bike and check the tires, they're full to the brim with air. Do you use air with your tires or something else? Let me know? Thanks...

Always ALWAYS use air, and not the solid tubes. The rule of thumb for bigger folk is to air the tires up to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall, and you should be good. Me, I prefer tires in the 75-80psi range. Less roll too squishy, more is just too harsh. YMMV.
