This morning was kind of like how my legs were earlier this week. Monday morning, oh man, boy howdy was that a struggle. It took everything to grump the 5 mile short route into work. Slow as a turtle, sore, and gettin' rained on with no fenders. Got there.. and I was hummin' away. I had to catch myself and get grumpy again, you know, cuz you can't be happy on a Monday folks. Monday goin home, though, the zip started to come back, helped no doubt by a strong tailwind. Get this - Monday night I even managed to replace my own chain. The SRAM Powerlink is.. awesome! Why did I miss this marvelous invention in the past? I might actually clean my chains now. The last time I tried to do it I completely screwed up a Shimano, but these SRAM wonderthingamajigs are something to behold. A miracle of modern science. A tribute to humanity.
Err yeah.
Tuesday mornin was better, but I didn't realize I was still turtle slow, even though I felt fast. Had a nice little race with a guy for the last 3 miles in, and you know what? That kinda woke everything up. Up until that point I wasn't sure how things were going, if I should really attempt the Dirty Kanza, or any other big ride again. Sure I was a turtle, but I was a good feelin' turtle.
This morning it was foggy. I tried, I really did try to get grumpy. Then I found myself beltin' out some Clapton (no i wasn't wearing an iPod, this is my own internal dialogue at work kids) and spinnin away. My smaller cogs and the chain haven't come to an understanding yet, so I've been avoiding the 11 and 13 tooth cogs, so I slapped her in the 15 (I think?) and just alternated between the big and middle ring. Ya know what? Man oh man that was fun. Let's just say, the legs still have remnants of soreness, but they're back, and those cross tires didn't slow me down at all. The fog made for a nice and cool ride, almost too nice.
How can you be in a mad mood after a ride like that? Unpossible!
p.s. 1 pound short of 50 lost for 2008. Still on track for my Christmas, and Spring 2009 goals. The latter are what I'm really waitin for. Getting closer, and closer...
