New commuting plan

Having an office, and ample storage in said office, I started thinking this weekend. See, the panniers have been annoying me lately. They're cheap, they work great for the price, but they still do annoying things that cheap stuff does. Or rather, when they are loaded they like to flop around like a fish out of water - that's better. Again, I'm not complaining too loudly, for $30 they are freaking outstanding. Anyway, I also don't like having to put together a outfit in the morning, then pack it up.. etc etc etc. I could complain for hours about it. Trust me.

So I thought "hey, why not just drop off a week's worth of clothes at work?" You know, thinking outside the box. Yesterday during the day, amid packing and all the various other things, I washed and put together a week's worth of work clothes. Then in the early evening we took the car to drop it off, and I arranged this week's clothes in a drawer in my office, hung up the ironed shirts in a spare closet, then accompanied the family for dinner (fresh salad bar.. gotta love it).

And.. it's the best thing ever! This morning I had a backpack on my back full of gym clothes for the week (someone forgot that bag when he was caravaning stuff in.. oops..), but no panniers flopping around, and no careful packing of work clothes.

This could definitely grow on me.

That's about it. Another gorgeously cold day in Nebraska, but I'm oddly happy with it. I have a feeling this is going to be a good year.

I've been doing that for over a year now, I have a nice big drawer, and I put all my clothes for a good week and a half in there, then I make one pack the panniers full on both sides trip ever week to week and a half, and wash all the stuff and bring some back, along with changing out for some different shirts and pants. Makes the ride in and home a lot better knowing I only need to load up once every week or so.

Works for me!

Joe - A week later, I'm full in agreement. So much nicer (and faster) in the morning when all I gotta do is throw on my cycling clothes, then head out the door. Plus it's working wonderfully, and I have a good system to get the clothes replenished/clean figured out. Keeping a car at work definitely helps.

Next week I gotta remember my workout clothes, which the dirty ones live in the trunk of my car. Hah. My poor car..

Hey, not sure if you'll see this as it's a bit of an old post. I've been lurking for a while. I'll also leave a comment in a more recent post... I have to share my props.

I'm lucky enough to work at a place with showers in the basement. I bought a little wardrobe at Ikea where I hang a weeks worth of clothes in my office. I have to wear ironed shirts and pants as I'm a pediatrician, so that really doesn't work with the panniers. I can get a few wears out of each between washes and just bring undies, t-shirts, and socks in the panniers.

Extra clothes are also nice when I get peed or puked on by a patient.
